Those who step into the industry find it an exciting and fulfilling career path, however it can be challenging to take that first step.
Nathan Whennen, a residential sales consultant with Realmark Urban, moved from the building industry and said he’ll never look back.
“Real estate was something I thought about for a long time, so when the building company I was working for looked like they were going to go into liquidation, I knew it was time to pivot,” he said.
“I was drawn to real estate as I wanted the ability to build my network and generate my own business, opposed to relying on businesses who generated leads for you.
” I also believed my prior experience and knowledge would provide me with a competitive edge, which I was excited to explore.”
Nathan sat down with several different real estate companies, but Realmark Urban stood out to him as it boasted a successful team, and he found that culture infectious.
“Being in a successful environment elevates yourself, as you’re having conversations with those doing well giving you the ability to leverage off their knowledge,” he said.
“I have now been working as an agent for over 18 months and found that a combination of my previous sales experience, culture and support really helped me get started.
“The beauty of being an agent is that you become a specialist in your specific area and the nature of that helps you build your business organically with referrals and word of mouth.”
Nathan Whennen encouraged those interested in switching to real estate to take the plunge, and believes success comes down to support, work ethic and passion.
“If you tick all these boxes, you’ll be miles in front of your competitors.”
