The quick six with.... Miles Garner
1. How did you become a real estate agent?
I was at a crossroads in 2014 and desperately needed a change of career and direction. I wanted a career that was financially and mentally rewarding but didn’t want to study for years on end. My mum jokingly said why don’t you try real estate, so I googled the course and thought this looks easy! Eight years later and here I am (FYI it is not easy haha).
2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
Negotiations for my sellers and being able to get a result that sometimes is life changing for them, that’s the fun part.
3. What is the most challenging part of your job?
Stepping back emotionally and remembering that you are just the middle conduit in what sometimes can be an absolute storm. Leaving your work at work and not bringing the day home is a big challenge and almost impossible in this industry.
4. What are you most proud of achieving in your role?
There is no one thing in particular I’m most proud of, I don’t care too much about rewards and records etc. I am proud to be able to help provide (along with my wife) a good life for my children.
5. We know WA market conditions are strong, what have the last 12 months been like for you on the ground?
It’s an interesting one because everyone on the outside thinks a hot seller’s market must be amazing to work in. I have found the last 12 months or so quite challenging in regards to always being on edge about where the next piece of business will come from. Having said that, it has been a very rewarding year financially.
6. What is your best advice for sellers?
When interviewing an agent remember there is only one question you need to ask; “How will you get me a better result than the next agent I interview?” If the agent can answer that clearly and succinctly then don’t even bother about differences in fee etc.
